Busting the Ghosts of Cafés Past
You all know it. That location that seems like a good spot for a restaurant but always ends with another eatery going out of business. When Lisa and Lance Ratze opened Yola’s Café in January 2009, it was fresh on the heels of a coffee shop that lasted only a year or so and another that made it only a few months. This article shows how they made Yola’s a regular haunt…or watch the video to see Lance in person!

Yola’s Cafe brings a touch of family to Madison’s far west side
Charms include secret waffle recipe and Middleton-based Viamo coffee
“Yola’s cozy vibe and darn good waffles make the short drive from the chaos of the mall area worth it any day. After a few visits, this bit of local flavor could even be called a home away from home, a thought Yola herself would surely smile about.”
Testimonials
I recommend this wonderful cafe! They have a very comfortable interior where I can discuss business plans with colleagues or simply relax and read a book or finish some work. Their outdoor patio is also a wonderful place to read the morning paper. I tried their baked oatmeal — wanting to be more healthy — it is the best breakfast, best oatmeal I have had in years! This you must try — it is truly delicious!

While other coffee shops and even Panera Bread rush out the mobile workers (we use too much wi-fi and don’t drink and eat enough), the owner welcomes them and takes the time to introduce business people to each other. One day when it was too cold to take a call outside, the owner offered his office as a quiet spot for an important call. Now that’s outstanding customer service!

Yola’s is more kid friendly than just about any other coffee shop I’ve been too.
